Is it okay to write "Xmas" instead of "Christmas"?
Is it true that it is "unsaintly" to write the word Christmas "Xmas" ??
I heard somewhere that it is considered a sin or something because the "X" is taking the place of "Christ" in "Christmas". Is this true?? Thanks!
Of course. It's a very ancient abbreviation. Christians used it for centuries until someone seriously lacking in education decided that the "X" was somehow "crossing out Christ". The "X" is actually a Greek abbreviation for Christ.
