How do you safely ship a large stretch canvas painting?
I need to know where to get the packing supplies, and how to pack it safely so it doesn't get torn or anything like that. Also, how long should it dry (oil/acrylic) before it can be packed for shipping, so it doesn't get any weird impressions on the surface? And lastly, what is the best service to use? (It won't leave the USA.) Thanks for any advice, as I'm pretty concerned about my masterpiece!
There are a few ways.
"un"-stretch the painting. Pack in bubble-wrap and backboard it before wrapping it in paper.
Box it in a custom made box with bubble-wrap. (expensive because the box may be 1 time use only)
Leave it to a professional art mover. They BRING the packing stuff. Just be sure to give the right dimensions of your art. I'm not a US citizen so can't really recommend any service.
Acrylic you can move 'the day after'. Oil depends on your style. I personally would not move any oil for at least a few months up to even a year.
